![]() The Bible in the new testament has placed a huge significance on the power and work of the Holy Spirit. It symbolizes punishment and eternal suffering. Revelation 19:20 talks of the lake of fire as the second death for the worshippers of the beast. “Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” In the book of Matthew 25:41, the Bible says: That means it will continue burning forever and ever. This fire represents punishment and judgement, and it is eternal. This is the destination of the evildoers, the angels of darkness, and the devil, their master. Symbol Of Eternal DamnationĪt the end of age when the world we live in is destroyed and the judgement call is sounded, the Bible talks of sinners being thrown into the eternal fire. Whereas the water baptism was external the fire baptism is internal. So, fire presents the new baptism that is accompanied by the new believer receiving the Holy Spirit and being part of the New Testament. The new covenant as we know it was sealed by the blood of the lamb on the cross of Calvary. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.’” “John answered them all, saying, ‘I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. ![]() In one of the instances, he told the audience that his baptism was that of water but he who will be coming, meaning Jesus, will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. The interesting bit is that the fire wasn’t consuming the bush. In Exodus 3:2-3 the LORD appears to Moses in a blazing fire in the middle of a bush. There are many other instances where God appears in the form of fire in the Bible. The pillar of fire that appeared by night represented the LORD’s presence and guidance. “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light so that they could travel by day or night.” His presence was manifested in different ways one of which was through fire. When the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness to Canaan, God was there with them.
